The kinetic light work of Bardula explores mathematical figures extracted from virtual 3D geometrical algorithms and spiralling movements inspired by vortex phenomenon. These are magnified through laser and LED-technology, using light and matter to study the correlation between 2D and 3D and the relationship between colour, form, light, reflection and virtual volume.
BARDULA is the name of both the artist and her collective, founded in 2013 by a Belgian silversmith whose artistic career began at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp in 1988.
Bardula’s work falls within the realm of geometric abstraction, particularly the currents of optical and kinetic art, and reinterprets these artistic movements with a particular focus on science and new technologies.
Drawing on light, transparency, reflection, and virtual volume, the work explores optical effects and mathematical figures.
Bardula exploits matter and light to study the correlation between 2D and 3D : her luminokinetic works focus on the visual perception and spatial experience created by light-based perspectives.
Since 2015, Bardula’s work has been featured in over fifty exhibitions at galleries and institutions specialising in geometric abstraction, Concrete art, Optical art and Kinetic art : Galerie La Ligne (Basel), Valmore Studio d’Arte (Vicenza and Venice), Kinetica (London), Galerie Kellermann (Düsseldorf), Galerie Denise René (Paris), Galerie Nery Marino (Paris), Oliver Cole Gallery (Miami), the IHP Mathematics Museum (Paris), and Galerie Wagner (Paris).
