| Following on from Kinetica’s “Man and Machine” panel discussion at the Bishopsgate Institute, Kinetica presents Future Bodies, a workshop and performance event at the Science Museum’s Dana Centre. Presented in association with the Smartlab Digital Media Institute, there will be 3 workshops preceded by an explanatory panel session exploring what our bodies and their responses will look like in the future. The panel session will be chaired by Kinetica Director Tony Langford Speakers: Lizbeth Goodman – Director, SMARTlab Digital Media Institute Sara Diamond – President of the Ontario College of Art & Design (OCAD) and artist / new media designer Camille Baker – SMARTlab Researcher in Networked Performance Media Rachel Armstrong (via Skype) – author and medical doctor specialising on the future of humankind WORKSHOP 1: Mindtouch workshop demonstration with Camille Baker. Using biosensors and mobile applications this workshop will show our body’s responses through performance and interactive media. Camille Baker is a media curator/ artist/ researcher specialising in mobile devices, video art, the body, networked performance, music composition and performance, interactive media installation and responsive environments. WORKSHOP 2: SMARTfashion arduino workshop with Rachel Lasebikan, Tara Mooney and Tania Fox. Smartlab fashion designers will demonstrate how clothing can be customized with biosensors to embed them with responsiveness, using small ‘technologized’ items of body wear such as collars and cuffs that have been pre-prepared for the workshop. Participants will also gain a taster of the arduino as a human / computer interface. WORKSHOP 3: Recycled Orchestra workshop with Colm Ó Snodaigh & Martin Malii Karlsson Workshop showing how “old” technologies or found objects can be recycled and given new aesthetic and performative value by rethinking them as musical instruments. Participants will be able to gain experience of each of the workshop sessions prior to a Recycled Orchestra jam session at the end of the evening.
